Working with Galleries: A Comprehensive Workshop for Emerging Artists
Navigating galleries can be a daunting task for many artists, especially early in their careers. In this hands-on workshop, students will gain invaluable insight into the process of approaching and submitting to galleries, with an emphasis on strategies for creating compelling submissions and writing. Knowing where and how to start is crucial, and this workshop will guide you through the essential steps to ensure your work stands out.There’s no shortage of opportunities in New England for artists at all career stages from open calls to rolling solo exhibition proposals. The workshop will cover how to find the right opportunity, how to best document your work for submission, write an appealing artist statement, understand gallery etiquette and contracts, and remove barriers to give artists the confidence to submit and exhibit.
The workshop will feature a mix of written exercises and interactive discussions, providing plenty of opportunities to collaborate with fellow artists, receive constructive feedback, and refine your submission materials. Whether you are new to the gallery scene or looking to strengthen your professional presence, this workshop offers the tools and support you need to confidently navigate the process.

Framing Techniques for Artists: Matting and Mounting with James Chase! | 4/16/25
Join artist and ABC Founder James Chase for a hands-on workshop focused on the essential techniques of matting and mounting artwork. Designed for emerging artists, this session will guide participants through the professional presentation process, from mat design and precise measuring to cutting a mat window, preparing backing, and securing artwork with photo corners / or hinging. By the end of the workshop, attendees will have a fully assembled presentation package—including their mounted artwork, backing, and a custom-cut mat—ready for framing!
Materials Required
Please bring a piece of art on paper, no larger than 8.5" x 11". All tools and materials will be provided!Please note, this is a demonstration of matting techniques only and does not cover the full framing process. For complete framing, participants can either take their matted works to a professional frame shop or finish the process independently.

Taxes for Freelancers, Artists and Creative Businesses with Hannah Cole! | 4/29/25
Workshop: What can I deduct? Do I bring receipts to my accountant? Is my art a business or a hobby? What is a Schedule C? How do I deduct my home studio? Why do freelancers have to pay taxes quarterly, and how do I do that? Hannah Cole is a tax expert who specializes in working with creative businesses and artists. She will discuss the basic tax equation, self-employment tax and the estimated quarterly tax system, audit concerns for the creative person, and other tax issues specifically relevant to artists and makers, followed by a question and answer period.
